Conflict Of Interest - China V/S Leading World Powers
Conflict Of Interest - Us V/S China
Before the advent of Coronavirus USA was the leading economy, dominating force and sole super power of the world. Donald Trump failed to take tangible steps to withstand the Covid19 pandemic, which dented the supremacy of the USA. Spaces left by the USA were filled up by Chinese power. Now China is the numero uno economy and maintained 3-4% GDP during the Covid19 outbreak. During this time period the world economy experienced a disastrous slump. Newly elected president of America Joe Bidden needs to do a lot of introspection and retrospection to retrieve the lost ground for the USA.
China is the second-largest economy in the world, with economic strength hovering around $15 trillion. China emerged as a world economic power at a scintillating speed. China initiated to modernize its economy during the 1970s, with the help of the US. The fall of the Soviet Union helped China to spread its tentacle all over the world. Now China turned into a production house of the world and turned out to be the largest trading partner of the European Union, replacing the USA. Before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic momentum of Chinese economic growth was a bit sluggish. It seems that the sudden emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic reignites the Chinese economy. Medical researchers are still unable to find the origin of Covid-19, as two investigation teams of WHO failed to unearth much information due to the non-cooperative attitude of Wuhan lab scientists. Many entomologists predicted that Wuhan Institute of Virology is the source of coronavirus, while other stressed on natural resource or Wuhan fishing and animal market begets the virus. Chinese scientists of Wuhan lab did not cooperate with WHO's investigation team, cast aspersion on Chinese intention. China was the first country to be affected by Covid-19 and its quick recovery generates plenty of doubts. The most dazzling fact is that China launched a scrupulous vaccination programme during the initial period of 2019, which begets plenty of unanswered questions.
The Covid-19 pandemic dealt a telling blow to the US. The US lost its economic supremacy and global influence. The US no longer remains the main trading partner of the European Union and numero uno destination of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Both places are now occupied by China. Chinese GDP touched an all-time high of 19.01% during mid of 2020. Many media houses raised finger against China for its role to spread coronavirus all over the world and declined to disclose critical information related to Covid-19. Chinese diplomats played a very staunch role and blamed the US to establish a conspiracy theory against China. On the humanitarian front, China tried glorifying its pale image by providing medical equipment in haste to South East Asia, Europe and African nations. The belated efforts of the Chinese regime to recover the lost face was not entirely successful. The scrappy medical equipment supplied by the Chinese government besmirched the already stained image. Before the inception Covid-19 pandemic, the American economy was recovering swiftly from decade long recession and the GDP was in an upward spiral (2.3%). The sudden blitzkrieg of the Covid-19 pandemic grinds the growth and 14 million people are jobless. World Bank reports stated that the US would experience a positive GDP of 1.9% during the 2022-24 financial year. During the same time, China will experience a GDP growth of 5.7%. Center for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) predicted that in 2028 China would become the world largest economy of the world, surpassing the US.
Conflict of Interest Between India and China
India's current political regime was always sceptical about the Chinese role in the spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic all over the world. Border clash with China around the Ladakh region sharpened the anti-China rhetoric and nationalistic sentiment among the Indian citizens resulted in the banishment of Chinese products from the Indian market. Indian government under the stewardship of Modi banned 57 Chinese apps (June 2020) and promulgated a law that banned direct investment from China into the Indian market. To gloss the image India started to share Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca to neighbouring countries i.e. Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Afghanistan. India also shared vaccines with overseas countries, Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom, the West Indies and a couple of African nations.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, India withstands the brazen attack of Chinese soldiers along the LAC on 15th June 2020 of Ladakh. In this border clash, India lost 20 soldiers, while China received 45 coffins of its dead soldiers. To put pressure Chinese on regime, Indian soldiers wrenched important points of the mountainous region, Rezing La, Rechan La during 29-30th August 2020, which forced PLA to withdrew its force from LAC to promote a truce with the Indian army. The maverick act of Indian soldiers boost the morale of minnows like Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines. India emerged as a power to be reckoned with in the Indo-Pacific region. Various Indian ministers carried out the stinging attack on China for spreading coronavirus all over the world.
Conflict Of Interest - Dominance Over
South China Sea
Chinese regime claims that the entire South China Sea falls under its territory. China tried to boost its naval power for the last couple of decades to wrench the entire South China Sea from the grab of small neighbours. The Covid-19 pandemic provides enough opportunity to the Chinese regime to boost its dominance over the entire South China Sea. The US tried to provide a talisman to these small nations. But Covid-19 pandemic dealt a blow to the US, which has suffered from decade long economic cession. While the US was busy recovering from the venomous impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, China on the other hand bolstered its base around the South China Sea. China created two new administrations Xisha and Nansha in April 2020 in the South China Sea, which dents the maritime interest of Malaysia. Malaysia is not the only nation in this region that receives a whack from the Chinese naval force, Vietnam, Indonesia is also threatened by Chinese naval activities. In January 2021, a Chinese vessel enters the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Natuna Island and one of the Vietnamese fishing boats drowns in the sea (April 2020) after colliding with a Chinese ship. All the ASEAN nations coupled with QUAD need to build a robust block in South China Sea region to truncate the growing influence of China. Failure to do so would prove a disaster for this region.
