6. Namib Desert, Namibia

The Battle of Verdun, which was regarded as "The Great War", turned the fertile ground into a barren land. The battle destroyed a total of six villages out of which three were reconstructed by French government. The place is littered with unexploded shells, grenades, chemical weapons, and makes the place literally inhabitable. The former serene, beautiful place turned into a deserted ghastly ground.
9. Poveglia Island, Italy
The Povegalis Island situated between Venice and Lido. Once Povegalia Island was dumping ground of deceased and diseased persons. Later mental hospitals were constructed to shelter those persons showing any kind of physical and mental disorder. Even today, nobody wants to set foot on this soil. Once the flourishing city of Italy, Poveglia remained abandoned for centuries due to barbaric attacks of invaders.
